PlayStation 5 Launch Delayed in This Country Due to a Bizarre Reason

Sony’s global launch plans were always a little vague. During the PlayStation 5 Showcase, the company announced that certain countries would get the console on November 12, while others will get it on November 19. Obviously, fans were not happy with the decision. Although, given the current pandemic situation, there wasn’t much Sony could do either. Now, it has recently come to light that Sony’s launch plans for India will have to be delayed even further. The reason being that Sony India doesn’t have the trademark for PS5 in the country.

Sony doesn’t possess the PlayStation 5 trademark in India

Yes, you read that right. Japanese console giant Sony Interactive Entertainment does not possess the trademark for PS5 in India. As reported by The Mako Reactor, the trademark is currently held a certain individual named Hitesh Aswani. Apparently, he filed for a trademark 3 months before Sony on October 29, 2019. This situation isn’t favorable for Sony in any way considering there will now be a lengthy legal process involved here. This will definitely push back the launch date for PlayStation 5 in India even further, Possibly even to 2021. Additionally, The Mako Reactor also reached out to Sony India for comment. The response they got was “Thank you for bringing this to our attention, however we have no comments at this stage,”

A specific launch date was never in place for India. Hopefully, Sony will act swiftly on this and resolve the legal issues as soon as possible. India is one of the growing Asian markets for gaming and it’ll be unfavorable for Sony to miss out on a launch in such a lucrative market.

Apart from this issue, Sony also recently showcased a teardown of its PS5 console. Xbox decided to take a sly dig at Sony, while Playstation fans were in awe of its design and build.

The ‘console war’ is definitely at its peak and both Sony and Xbox are all set for a launch day showdown. Both the companies have played their cards and all that remains to be seen is who comes out on top. November will finally reveal the winner of this so-called ‘war’.
