“Don’t know if we’ll ever know”- Hall of Famer Chooses Between Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce and George Kittle were arguably the two standout tight ends in the NFL last season. The pair faced-off against one another in last year’s Super Bowl LIV in Miami. As we all know, Kelce got the last laugh in that duel as Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl Trophy since 1970. But Kelce has a new opponent to compete against heading into the 2020 season.

Rob Gronkowski made a shock return from retirement as he signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wake of Tom Brady’s arrival. The former New England Patriots star was one of the top tight ends last decade before he announced his decision to quit in 2018. However, Gronkowski’s return will once again put some pressure on the likes of Kelce, Kittle, and the other tight ends in the league to up their game in 2020.

Tony Gonzalez finds it difficult to pick between Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce

Former Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Tony Gonzalez, appeared on the latest installment of Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. The topic of discussion for the day was ‘who will have the better year in the NFL this season, Travis Kelce or Rob Gronkowski.

Gonzalez replied by saying “I’m going to go with Kelce…we don’t know how good he can be..and I don’t know if we’ll ever know.”

“Having said that, I think Gronkowski is going to have an outstanding year if he stays healthy, you never know, but if he’s healthy throughout the season you gotta believe that he’s going to go up there and put monstrous numbers up. But with that offense and all those other players in that offense you don’t need him to put up that kind of numbers.

“I believe in that (Kansas City Chiefs) offense with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, he is somebody they’re gonna have to lean on a lot. He is going to be a focal point in that offense therefore he’s going to put up better numbers than what Gronkowski is going to do,” Gonzalez said on the show.

Kelce was terrific for the Chiefs as they made their way to the Super Bowl LIV Trophy last season. Gonzalez does make sense when he argues that Kelce’s role in his team’s offense is more central as compared to that of Gronkowski. ‘The Gronk’ is coming out of a two-year break and will definitely take some time to get up to speed with the league once again.

As the famous saying goes, ‘form is temporary but class is permanent’, will that be the case in the Travis Kelce – Rob Gronkowski debate?
