“A F*cking Beast”- Shroud Gives Take on Nvidia’s RTX 3080 and RTX 3090

Nvidia took the world by storm when they announced the all-new GeForce RTX 30 series of GPUs. With so many promising new games on the horizon, fans can’t wait to see how the games feel with the improved ray tracing this new line of GPUs aim to provide. On one of his recent streams, Shroud talks about the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090 and the expected difference between them as a part of a Q&A session. Shroud also talks about new survival games in that segment of his stream.

The new RTX 30 series guarantees an ultimate gaming experience for the users. Recently, the official Twitter handle for the much-awaited game Cyberpunk 2077 posted a tweet demonstrating how the game will look if played with RTX on, using the RTX 3080 graphics processor. The RTX 30 series GPUs will hit the market on the 17th of this month.

The RTX 30 series is powered by NVIDIA’s 2nd gen RTX architecture known as Ampere. Along with this, the line of GPUs feature new RT Cores, Tensor Cores, and streaming multiprocessors to enable extremely realistic ray-traced graphics with state-of-the-art AI features. However, the price of the GPUs is of concern among people. This is something Shroud mentions in his stream as well.

Shroud talks about the difference in power and price between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 GPUs

According to Shroud, the difference between the two GPUs should not be very different. He says, “I’m sure it’s not that much different… I’m sure a 3080 is a f–king beast and I’m sure a 3090 is just a little bit better.”

Now, the major difference between the two GPUs is the amount of VRAM they have. The GeForce RTX 3080 has a VRAM of 10GB, and the RTX 3090 has a VRAM of 24GB. While the difference is this much, Shroud thinks that an insanely high VRAM like that seems a little redundant.

“24GB of VRAM vs. 10? Yeah but like, ain’t no game you play is gonna even use 10 (GB) VRAM… For the most part, it is so hard to use that much of RAM on a GPU.”

Considering that, the price difference between the two GPUs does seem insane. While the RTX 3080 is priced at $699, the RTX 3090 is priced at a whopping $1499. Now, the prices individually make sense for each GPU. However, the 24GB of VRAM seems a bit redundant standing now, although devs might make new games in the near future capable of utilizing such huge VRAM.

But as of now, it looks like Nvidia could have made a GPU with lesser VRAM and keeping it affordable. It can be easily deduced that the RTX 3080 will have more demand after it launches, than the RTX 3090.
